Whether you’re taking part yourself, or coming along to cheer on the participants, this year it’s easier than ever to bike to the ASB Auckland Marathon – thanks to Bike Auckland’s bike valet parking service, sponsored by Barfoot & Thompson.

Find our secure staffed bike parking service located close to the skate plaza at Victoria Park. We’ll be happy to look after your bike from 6am to 1.30pm. As well as free secure bike parking, we provide maps and general information about biking in the city.

How to bike there

We suggest the following routes for best access. Watch out for runners along the way, and give way to them – they’ll be focused on that finish line!

From the East

Take the Tamaki Drive shared path all the way into Quay Street and The Viaduct. Remember to ride on the shared path as the road is for runners today. Then ride over Te Wero bridge and along past North Wharf. At the silos, hang a left onto Daldy Street – watch out for runners coming through! – and ride all the way up to the bike parking on the right side of Victoria Park. NB Follow the directions of traffic marshalls when crossing Fanshawe St.<

From the West

The Northwestern cycleway brings you all the way into town. Then roll along the Lightpath, continue down the Nelson Street cycleway. Wait for the green bike light to cross Fanshawe Street, and go straight ahead into Market Place. Watch for the Full Marathon runners as you cross Customs Street West!

Keep heading towards the Viaduct and hang a right to loop around the yacht basin (watch for pedestrians through this part) and then a left towards Te Wero Bridge and along past North Wharf. At the silos, hang a left onto Daldy Street – watch out for runners coming through! – and ride all the way up to the bike parking by the skateboard plaza  at Victoria Park. NB Follow the directions of traffic marshalls when crossing Fanshawe St.

From the North

Cross the harbour on the Devonport Ferry, and then hang a right out of the Ferry Building onto the Quay Street Cycleway towards the Viaduct. Go up and over Te Wero Bridge and along past North Wharf. At the silos, hang a left onto Daldy Street – watch out for runners coming through! – and ride all the way up to the bike parking in the rights side of Victoria Park. NB Follow the directions of traffic marshalls when crossing Fanshawe St.

From the South

Auckland is sadly lacking in family-friendly safe bike routes directly from the south. However, if you’re coming from southwest on the isthmus, you can use the cycleway alongside SH20 which feeds into the Waterview Path, then join the NW cycleway at Waterview. If you’re coming from further afield, we suggest bringing your bikes on the train (bikes ride free!) directly to Britomart, and then follow the directions above from the Ferry Building.

Bonus: Bike Valet at the ASB Auckland Marathon Athlete Check-in and Sports Expo

In front of The Cloud on Queens Wharf, Saturday 19 October 8am – 5pm

We’ll also be providing a secure Bike Valet Service for the ASB Marathon Expo on Saturday at The Cloud on Queens Wharf, so if you’re coming to town to pick up your race pack and timing chip, why not make it easy for yourself and come by bike?

We’ll be happy to look after your bike – not just while you’re at the Expo, but if you have errands to do or important things like going for lunch or coffee while you’re in town. So feel free to bring the family!

(Page updated: an earlier version of this page mentioned Bike Valet on Friday – please note the Expo Bike Valet is now only available on Saturday 19 October).
