Counties Cycle Classic will be held each year shortly before the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge – another Rotary initiative. Our event which runs through some of New Zealand’s richest growing country with spectacular scenery gives cyclists a chance to blow out the cobwebs in preparation for Taupo, or just enjoy a day’s ride in the picturesque Franklin countryside.
200 riders enjoyed the inaugural event in 2017 with comments like:
“My friend and I were on e-bikes and loved every minute of it!”
“Well done all involved. Great for the Local Board to be able to support an awesome event.”
“A massive effort so good stuff.”
“Hey! Just wanted to say a big thank you for putting on such a well-run event yesterday. Information was well communicated, traffic management was really good and the course was really interesting! Thank you!”
“Great first event”
“Thanks for organizing today’s race. I know a lot of hard effort goes into holding an event such as this”
The rides follow roads with very little traffic and great scenery. There is a short stretch on the Pukekohe – Waiuku road that has a moderate level of traffic then it’s all nice quiet country roads. All roads are sealed and open to the public. Care is needed at all times. and road rules must be obeyed. Cyclists must not cross the centre line and where there is no centre line you must keep to the left side of the road.
